So, here we are, over a week into the new year, and I haven’t had a chance to post. Of course, with work and the crushing schedule over the holidays, my health ran down a little, so I have spent this past week desperately trying not to get sick, but failing miserably. I have new beans and even roasted on New Years Day, but with this cold, I cannot fully enjoy them, yet. Of course, being sick means resting, which also allowed me to finally finish Jessica Jones on Netflix, haha. I liked it, check it out.

Costa Rica Don Oscar – Los Anonos. The first roast of 2016.

I have the following beans from Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Kenya for upcoming tastings. The Costa Rica and one Guatemala will have a posting this week, as soon as I can smell/breathe through my nose, haha.

They both came out pretty well, hitting a Full City profile with ease. They have been resting for about a week, so I want to make sure I get my tasting in while they are still “fresh”.

So with the coffee on hold, and being sick, I have switched to teas this week. I am currently enjoying a nice cup of Zhu Ye Qing green tea. It’s a Chinese green tea, which translate to Green Bamboo Leaf, and has a nice bright, fresh flavor. I did a little whiff of the scent and it is a nice clean scent, which makes sense, since the tea buds are picked during the early spring.

Depending on the steeping time, the flavor is light or bright, but it is definitely refreshing. I bought my loose leaf tea from Seven Cups Tucson Tea House where you can also sit down and enjoy a cup or pot of any of their high quality loose leaf Chinese teas. They also feature tastings and classes, so they are definitely worth checking out.

I have other teas from them as well, Lapsang Souchong (Black Tea), Mi Lan Xiang (WuLong Tea), Meng Ding Huang Ya (Yellow Tea), and Shi Feng Long Jing (Dragon Well Green Tea), which is one of my favorites. Needless to say, they all have unique flavors and aromas that make tasting them just as interesting as coffee. I tend to find them more subtle in flavors, so it takes me longer to get a sense for tea, but I can say I like the Lapsang Souchong Strong Smoke, because of the smoked leaves give it a nice distinct aroma and stronger black tea flavor.

I see 2016 as a year where I can branch out and extend this blog along with it to try new things, new flavors, and just have a little fun along the way. I wish everyone a (belated) Happy New Year!
