I started this blog as a way to keep track of the various coffees that I have been drinking, and initially gathered and recorded my data in a rather dry, methodical fashion. Granted, spreadsheets don’t lend themselves to much other than data collection. So, I am going to try and lighten the mood a little going forward, and give a more personal touch to the reviews. I hope to make the content more engaging for the reader, and possibly help me relate my experiences a little easier. So, as I look for the lighter side of myself, you might see less technical reviews.

I do have another order of green beans on the way, hopefully arriving today. I have multiple beans coming in from Ethiopian, Costa Rica, Sumatra, Mexico, and Guatemala. Admittedly, Guatemala is one of my daily cups of coffee, but Ethiopia, especially dry processed beans, are a favorite as well. It’s been awhile since I have roasted a peaberry bean, and the new Sumatra will be something new for me when it comes to roasting peaberry beans in the Gene Cafe.

Another website addition will be more food related items, as it turns out I like food. Almost as much as I like coffee. As a guy, not much beats a good steak, but sometimes a salad just hits the spot. Of course, there is plenty in between, so I will be posting more food related experiences as well. I do cook/grill a lot, but I also tend to seek out interesting restaurants, hole-in-the-wall shops, food trucks, and have even been known to eat at a gas station because they had good carne asada, so it could definitely vary.
